OVER 2000 STUDENTS ATTEND THE LAUNCH OF 2023 NATIONAL PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION (NPSC) AT YAA ASANTEWAA GIRLS' SHS - KUMASI

The 4th edition of the National Public Speaking Competition (NPSC) has officially been launched. The launch took place on Friday 13th October, 2023 at Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School in Kumasi, where over 2000 students and representatives from schools across the region were in attendance.

The NPSC, which is an annual event, has been organized by DeeDee Global in partnership with the Read more

Service (GES) and under the auspices of the Speaker of Parliament. NPSC is aimed at promoting public speaking, critical thinking, and leadership skills among students in senior high schools across Ghana. Another unique feature is the videography skill this competition promotes among students.

The theme for the 2023 edition, “Mental Health and the Adolescent Child,” was chosen to raise awareness and promote discussion around mental health in young people. According to the World Health Organization, depression is one of the most common mental disorders affecting young people.

At the launch, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education Dr William Kwame Amankra Appiah who chaired the program, emphasized the importance of mental health for young people and the need to break the stigma associated with mental illness. He praised the organisers for choosing the theme and urged all students to take advantage of the competition to broaden their knowledge on the subject. This was said on his behalf by the Ahafo Ano South Director of Education, Mr. Hamid Kramo who acted as the Chairperson.

The competition is set to run through various stages, including a Call for Entry Videos which ends by midnight on 27th October 2023. The Grand Finale will be held in Accra among TOP 5 schools who’ll battle out their speaking prowess and leadership creativity before a panel of judges and a live audience.

The Coordinator for NPSC Ghana – Madam Bertha Amanor in explaining the modalities for scoring indicated that there were four categories of scoring i.e. Appropriate Content (30%), Creativity (20%), Disposition/Coherence(10%), and Policy Recommendation/Implementation Strategies (40%). The following websites were provided for further details; www.npscghana.com and www.deedeeglobal.com as well as @npscghana on all social media platforms.

The launch of the 4th edition of the National Public Speaking Competition at Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS has demonstrated the commitment of Ghana’s educational authorities to promoting public speaking, critical thinking, and leadership skills among young people. The theme could not have been more relevant, given the current global mental health crisis. The Launch has set the stage for an exciting and educational competition in 2023, and we look forward to seeing the best public speakers in Ghana compete for the bragging rights “WHO IS GHANA’S BEST ORATOR”.
